Two Days, Four Locations: Shooting the Outdoor Research Vigor Plus Campaign

Some shoots come together fast. That was the case with our latest campaign piece for Outdoor Research, shot in the high desert east of the Cascades: two days, four locations, one hero product, and a crew small enough to move between spots before the light changed.

The product at the center of it all is the Vigor Plus Fleece Hoodie, and the goal was simple on paper. Show what the piece feels like in the environments it was built for, with real movement and real weather, not a studio turntable.

The Brief: Two Days, One Hero Product

Campaign shoots live or die on the brief. Ours asked for footage that could carry a full rollout: hero shots for the campaign cut, medium and detail frames for social, and enough coverage to feed product pages and ads. That is a lot of ground for two days, which meant every location had to earn its place on the schedule.

We leaned on the landscape itself. The Pacific Northwest does most of the art direction for a brand like Outdoor Research, so we built the shot list around terrain, texture, and weather rather than staged moments. The locations varied widely: open sage and juniper, forested ridgelines, and a final sequence that used late-day contrast to make the fleece read as something you would actually reach for.

Working With a Slim Crew and Limited Time

Outdoor brands shoot light for a reason. When your subject is a climber, trail runner, or guide moving through wild country, a big footprint gets in the way of the story. We kept the unit small and mobile: one operator, one support hand, and gear that could be broken down and reset between locations in minutes.

That discipline paid for itself. We were able to shoot golden hour in one location, reset, and still catch blue hour somewhere new. On a two-day schedule, the crew that moves fastest usually outperforms the crew with more equipment.

    Pre-production beats gear

With limited time, there was no room for discovering coverage in the field. We built the shot list in advance, mapped each location to the specific frames we needed, and ordered the days around the light. Every setup had a job. If a shot did not serve the campaign cut or a downstream deliverable, it did not get shot.

    Four Locations, One Consistent Look

Shooting across four locations in two days can fragment a campaign if you let it. We held the look together a few ways:

    • Consistent exposure philosophy. We exposed for the environment and let the fleece sit naturally in it, instead of artificially separating the product from the scene.
    • Movement as the connective tissue. Hiking, running, layering up, and adjusting the hood became the visual throughline across all four locations.
    • Details captured everywhere. Texture shots of the fleece, hands adjusting a zipper, and shoulder-level framings were collected at each stop so the edit has rhythm even with location variety.

The result is a piece that feels like one journey instead of four disconnected shoots, even though the terrain never repeated.

Why Campaign Shoots Like This Work

There is a lesson in this one for any brand planning a commercial or campaign shoot. The product did not have to shout. The hoodie earned its screen time by being used, worn, and put through real conditions, which is exactly how a technical fleece should be sold.

It also helps when the client trusts the process. A tight window is not a limitation if the creative is locked early. We spent our two days filming, not debating.

Where the Campaign Goes From Here

The footage is in post now. The hero campaign piece is first, followed by social cutdowns and stills pulled from the shoot for product pages and paid placements. Because we shot with deliverables in mind from the first frame, one production turns into months of content.

If your brand is planning a campaign and needs a crew that can move fast without cutting corners, reach out to Peak Visuals. We produce commercial and brand campaign work across the Pacific Northwest, and we would love to hear what you are building.
